The Early Sign of the Khmer Rouge Atrocity: Recalling Memory of M-13 through Documentary Film

Out Sreypich

Out Sreypich was born in 1998 in Phnom Penh and grew up to be interested in history and Cambodia’s culture. For this reason, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in History at the Royal University of Phnom Penh.

During her studies, Sreypich conducted thorough research regarding the genocidal regime of the Khmer Rouge. This knowledge led her to work with the Toul Sleng Museum, where she did further research and worked with original historic documents. Furthermore, she was involved in the research for the book “M-13” in Omlaing Commune, Kampong Speu Province. Sreypich had the desire to actively contribute to creating new documents regarding history. Participating in the Bophana Center’s documentary filmmaking training in 2021 enabled her to do so. Here, she made two documentary films and now works as a Production Assistant at the Bophana Center, connecting her knowledge of history with her passion for filmmaking.
