As Executive Director of the Bophana Audiovisual Resource Centre, Sopheap Chea oversaw the development of the Khmer Rouge History App.
Born in 1984 in Cambodia, Sopheap Chea grew up in a family which had survived the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime that ruled Cambodia from 1975 and 1979. Chea earned his Master of Arts in History at Khmerak University in 2012.From a young age, Chea was curious about stories of life in Cambodia and its past. That curiosity led him to Bophana Audiovisual Resource Centre, where he started as an Archivist and now serves as the Executive Director. Under his leadership, Bophana Centre has trained dozens of Cambodian youth in filmmaking to document the testimony of Khmer Rouge survivors and social issues across the country, especially within indigenous communities. He also oversaw the development of the innovative Khmer Rouge History App to make this history more engaging and accessible to tens of thousands of Cambodian students.
